Great for learning/refreshing by anonym I absolutly recommend this app for anyone interested in japanese. The UI is beautifully simple and to the point. You can pick how you like to test yourself with 4 different ways (there's more ways to customize the experience too). There's romanji to hirangana, hiragana to romanji, multiple choice, and drawing (drawing is my favorite one, goes for katakana and kanji as well). For direct learning for Hiragana and Katakana you can't have a better more straight forward app. 5/5
by anonym Although lacking audio features, its large amount of entries for vocabulary and kanji, its simplicity when displaying them, its plain and quick quizzes and statistics, and the fact that it doesn't need an internet connection and allows you to turn the adds off makes it deserve my five stars. It would be nice if it had recent updates though. 5/5
Its great but hope you could fix this problem by anonym On number test in romaji section there some of its answer is wrong like its says 2757 but it give me wrong instead 82757 is the right answer.hope you could fix this 4/5
Two major flaws by anonym 1) Weird randomization for answer positions in the quiz. Some answers always stay at the same place. For example, answer for ? was in the 6th position for 47 occurrences I had in JLPT4 and 5 tests. 2) Too many readings and definitions for kanji. As a result you have to scroll the answer list and you start to form incorrect associations by the length of the answer, not by it's meaning/reading. 3/5
Japanase? Yeah! This is amazing! by anonym I can't believe that I mastered Katakana and Hiragana in just two days! ^^. This app is very amazing, and it's free!! Thank you for your big help ? ???????? 5/5
The best, i got to improve in 2 days by anonym The tests are so useful and so fun, the multiple choices really helped me to memorize hiragana and katakana for a short period of time compare to other apps that i tried that are too complicated, this app is so user friendly and kinda (addictive when you feel that you're getting better everytime you use this app) to the point that you don't want to put down your phone :) ,and "IT'S FREE!" it really deserves to get 5 star, good job! 5/5
The grammar was super helpful! by anonym A light app! While most japanese learning app only teach phrases, this one actually has a grammar guide! Also, some app doesn't bother categorizing the verb, noun, etc, but this one does! The onyomi and kunyomi is also provided. And I liked that when I tap on some words, the pronunciation and meaning came up! That is until I changed my phone to samsung mini g3 though (I was using nokia x), it doesn't show up anymore. This is a great app and that is the only flaw I hope you will fix ^^ 4/5
Amazing by anonym Got this app last night and have already memorized 15 letters and how to write them. I especially love the fact that once I'm done with multiple choice with the letters I can take a quiz to actually write them out and memorize them even better. I started learning using Tae Kim's app, but I had no good way of practicing learning katakana/hiragana. This app definitely is a great tool to partner it with. 5/5
A suggestion by anonym When I reopen the app to the vocab or kanji screen, it doesn't start from where I exited the app, it always goes to the top of the page. It will get full 5 stars if it could save and restore to where I left the page 4/5
Amazing! by anonym Really amazing! Just a tiny glitch when you skip too many test kanji (AKA it was only showing read & write & not recognizing them when I wrote them) the screen goes completely blank for that section and won't let you try again even after rebooting. 5/5
Mostly great by anonym Really all this app needs to be perfect is a skip option in the written kanji tests, otherwise when the recognition system tells you you're wrong in one or two, you get those two kanji again 30 times out if the 50 of the test. Really frustrating... Or for an option like in quizlet where if you're wrong u can tell the up nah I'm right and it counts it as correct. 4/5
Sweet Stuff by anonym A really amazing app, love it to bits, the addition of the grammar guide was a wonderful bonus. If there's one nitpick I have it's definitely the lack of "zu" (from su) and "dzu" (from tsu). Still though, aside from that minor note, I've recommended this to my friends and we'll see to getting a casual group session of Japanese up and running. Thanks tonnes and keep up the good work! 5/5
It's Great by anonym This app is very helpful for my Japanese study and that's amazing since I teach myself Japanese! For the people who are having trouble pronouncing the words: A sounds like"Ah". E sounds like "Eh". I sounds like the i sound in "Skii". U sounds like the u sound in "Sushi". O sounds like "Oh". 5/5
This is really good for practising your kana by anonym Since I've gotten this app I've been learning around 20 kanji a week, it helps you through all aspects from the definition, shape, pronunciation and even the stroke order, it's not the best for learning grammar, but that's why I have tae Kim's app 5/5
N2 Student: Best Japanese Study App. Period by anonym There are a zillion apps to learn your 123s and ABCs, but there is not much else for advanced learning. You NEED this app if you're serious about learning Japanese. Amazing for kanji and great as a reference for words. You can study the correct drawing order, keep track of your progress or create custom kanji lists (or import them from a text file). I recommend you combine this app with Mazec (hand-writing keyboard) and Anki (flashcards, you can find the flashcards for whatever book you're using) 5/5
Recurring recognition error by anonym When I first downloaded the app last year, the recognition was fine, but it changed suddenly so that even though my writing of a character was correct, it would not accept it as it wasn't an exact match. I find writing the characters extremely effective as a learner, so it's disappointing that the feature that once worked ideally is now unusable. If this could be corrected again (it's done this a few times and then reverted back to being able to recognise my characters), then I would rate the app 5 stars :) 4/5
Missing kanji from the jlpt lists by anonym There's 24 kanji in the jlpt 5 list missing, and do you think all of those are in the jlpt 4 list? No at least 1 is nowhere to be found. Also I noticed there is also kanji missing out if the jlpt 4 list, and I'm not going to dig through the lists to find it. Everything in the app works fine, except this, which is a huge problem. I was using this app as a quick goto for some extra flashcards for a friend, and when I realized it was missing kanji, that seriously screwed me over. 1/5
Great app by anonym Very convenient but some of the kanji are a bit buggy with the new font in the latest release in "test" mode. Eg: ?, ?, ?. Perhaps this is an Android problem however as i can see the same stroke issues when typing the kanji here in this box. Changing to 5 stars ;-). Only other comment I would make is setting up your tests in the menu is a bit unintuitive. Perhaps make a video on Youtube with a tour will help new users 5/5
by anonym The app is very good and the writing recognition helps a lot to learn. Only problem is when I want to learn numbers, only big numbers appears which is kinda problematic specially because it starts to be very easy the number. The probability should be the same to get a decade, a hundred, a thousand and so on. 4/5
I learnt how to read and understand japanese from this by anonym When i downloaded this app like 2 years ago, i didn't even understand what konnichiwa was. Now, i have come to the point where i can hold a basic conversation and read japanese instruction paper. Recommend this 100% 5/5
I recommend it to people learning Japanese! by anonym The app has an amazing amount of information, I think among the free and pay to buy ones this app is easily in top 3. I haven't had time to go further in and test many things but looks pretty neat for now. Tho I would suggest that you try this app after getting abit understanding in what is kana and kanji. 5/5
Best Japanese language study app! by anonym This app helps you with kanji, numbers, vocabulary words, and the correct stroke order! The kanji quiz is separated by JLPT level 1-5. You can learn what you want and if you make a mistake, it tells you! This app is silent, so it's perfect on trains and buses. 5/5
Favorite Japanese learning app by anonym Love this app, it literally puts everything that I need together, it's an amazing guide. It's not easy to use if you're a complete beginner but if you know what you're looking for, there's no way Obenkyo doesn't have it. 5/5
The absolute best by anonym Whether you're learning Kanji or Hiragana, this is the app that will get you motivated to memorize everything. A great testing system, equally good and easy to use learning tool and overall, independent. It has everything you need in regards to vocabulary. The only experimental part is the drawing board, which will annoy you to the point you'll actually start writing the characters properly. A great app, spread it round for all learners of Japanese. 5/5
Improvements needed by anonym Would be better if they would give you example sentences with the vocabularu practice. What good is knowledge if you don't know how to apply it? Also, the particle section is neglected. Otherwise a decent app 4/5
Nice app but... by anonym ...the test in number has a little problem (unless I was wrong). I typed my answer and the correct answer was wrong. For example, ????????????? was written above and I typed 3820. The correct answer said ????????????? but it said 83820. Please fix this so that I should rate this 5. 4/5
All you need, for free by anonym My favourite App. Very useful test options. Always had ads turned on but I never noticed any. Did not expect a grammar section but the explanations are way better than in my textbooks. Every now and then it crashes and the automatic recognition when drawing kanji can be really annoying, though. 5/5
Good, but could be improved by anonym 1.Kanji are not classified correctly into their JLPT level, 2.You could add the special katakana combinations in test and study mode, like ti, tu, je, etc., 3.It feels like kanji come to green way before they should, and they then never seem to go back to yellow even if I write them wrong several times. 4/5
Almost 5 stars by anonym I know how to speak nihongo but never could find the time to learn how to read or write it. Now, thanks to this app I can. BUT, I wish the test buttons were bigger for each of the first two Kanji/Number MCQ tests. My suggestion, make the buttons bigger so people don't make finger tapping mistakes. Also, making it so you can toggle button/tab text between meanings and hiragana/katakana/romanji would be awesome. 4/5
Great learning tool by anonym There is so much content in this app, but you can break it down so that it's not so overwhelming. So far, I have mastered kana, and JLPT 5 kanji. Tackling JLPT 5 vocabulary now. I have tried other methods to learn Japanese, but this one is the best so far. Only complaint is that it would be nice to hear pronunciation. 5/5
I must admit by anonym I only have one problem with this app. The testing system is amazing, I couldn't ask for a better way to test myself. The problem is that there's not much you can do to study. If there were simple flashcards, such as for simple numbers to study, maybe it would be a more effective app. Otherwise, this is an amazing tool for intermediates. 4/5
good and fun app but not perfect by anonym its fun to learn using this app but there are quite a few errors. for example letters like ? , originally are not written like this, if typed using computers it is connected but in writing it shouldnt connect, so it shouldn't be 3 strokes. other error is spellibg of JA is ?? instead of ??. 3/5
Great, except one small hitch by anonym Great app. Best one I've used for study with memory palaces. However it's annoying that the side scroll resets to the top upon screen rotation and screen shut off. Is there a way to fix that? Also I tried looking on my SD card but is there a way to download obenkyou database to copy and use as a .doc file as well? 4/5
Awesome by anonym I've been using this app for about 3 years now and it's great. I like that I can choose which kanji I can study. It helps if you are taking a class or learning on your own. I use it when I have free time like breaks between work. It's really helped build my vocab, kanji and number skills. 5/5
Very good by anonym I am very much liking this program so far, much like the one I made back in the day. A bit of feedback: the "romanji keyboard" feature needs to have the letters spaced evenly apart, "I" on the horizontal part, and "-" on the vertical part, can be difficult to touch. This is my only complaint. 4/5
Good for what it is by anonym The app is pretty conprehensive. It contains learning tools for both hiragana and katakana as well as tools to test yourself on said alphabets. However, this is not a replacement for a teacher. For kanji, the app places the information about a particular character, a pretty impressive list of info I might add, and expects you to memorize it. This is not particularly useful for people who have trouble finding a way to study (i.e. me). Granted, I do not expect more than that from a free app. 4/5
I don't normally review by anonym Holy crap this is a good app. It's best to have some basic knowledge of how to pronounce Japanese, but that's way easier than English anyway overall. I literally don't believe how this app is free. I don't remember seeing any ads. This is like a dictionary+flashcard tests+some grammar and general info. It even has stroke order animations for all of the kanji, and breaks up what individual kanji makes what word if applicable. Good rabbit trail fun. 5/5
Best App for mass Vocabulary learning by anonym The vocabulary tools are good for learning lots of vocab. The filters are great for focusing on the tough words and then going back to your whole set. Helps get over the overwhelmingly daunting feeling of keeping all words in check. I will get there with this, and I am sure you will too; once you know how to use it effectively. 5/5
Love it by anonym This is so far the best kana learning app I have used. It is not recommended to absolute beginners, as unlike some apps, this one does not focus on zero-knowledge training (there are many apps that do this however). If you have learned the bare basics of reading kana/kanji, I have not found a better app for review and further learning. Only given 4 stars because of the lack of tools for absolute beginners, otherwise, HIGHLY recommended. 4/5
Excellent by anonym Perfect companion app to the textbook "Genki". The only compaint I read was the lack of pronunciation. I'll try to help. A sounds like "ah". E sounds like a hard "A". I sounds like a hard "E". O sounds like "oh". And U sounds like it does in sushi or soup. A few exceptions exist. U often sounds silent when Japanese is spoken at normal speeds. An example is desu, used to end a sentence formally. Beginners often pronounce it as it would sound when spoken slowly for emphasis, as "day-sue". It is usually pronounced as "dayss", not to be confused with the English for multiple days which sounds like "dayZ". Another important exception is R. That sound doesn't exist in Japanese, nor an L sound. Their R's sound similar to a combination or L and R. It's often hard to get used to, so it's recommended to listen closely to it spoken to understand. I hope this helps anyone that had questions on that! It helps greatly when learning the amazing collection of vocabulary and Kanji in this app. 5/5
